Phillip L. Swagel

Professor, University of Maryland School of Public Policy

Phillip L. Swagel is a professor at the University of Maryland School of Public Policy, where he teaches courses on international economic policy. He is also a senior fellow at the Milken Institute and a visiting scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. Professor Swagel was Assistant Secretary for Economic Policy at the Treasury Department from December 2006 to January 2009.  He was previously chief of staff at the Council of Economic Advisers and an economist at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors and the International Monetary Fund. Swagel received a bachelor's degree in economics from Princeton University and a PhD in economics from Harvard University.
