Since its founding in 2001, the biennial Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) Investment Institute has become the consummate venue for Jewish Federation and Community Foundations to deepen their understanding of the critical factors that affect portfolio performance and preservation in today’s volatile market environment. By way of background, Jewish Federations of North America is an umbrella organization representing 146 Jewish Federations and 300 network communities that collect and distribute more than $3 billion annually for social welfare, social services and educational needs. This is achieved through annual campaigns and our $21 billion assets under management in collective endowment and donor advised funds in our Federation system.
For the first time, JFNA’s Investment Institute will be collaborating with the Jewish Funders Network, which is also a membership organization, with some 2,000 members comprised of a diverse community of independent funders, foundations and grant-making professionals involved in philanthropy representing another $80 billion in additional Jewish philanthropic wealth. We are looking to collaborate with the Jewish Funders Network Annual Conference, which will be held right before the Investment Institute on March 22-24, 2020. We look to bring their finance and family office professionals to the Institute, making this an annual event which should add a more meaningful and dynamic perspective to how we invest and create impact for both our public and private foundations. Please note that you will need to register separately for the JFNA Investment Institute and the JFN Annual Conference.
The upcoming Investment Institute is an invitation-only event that will bring together some 400 investment committee chairs and members, chief financial officers, senior endowment professionals, leading financial service providers, high net worth donors, private foundation trustees and academics. This conference is the only one of its kind in the Jewish community that provides the opportunity to access top level expertise on investment management and best practices for foundation and endowment stewardship and governance. Both CFP and CPE continuing education credits will be available. Registration will be available starting in November.

The Investment Institute looks to provide a unique educational and networking platform for investment decision makers from leading endowments, private foundations, family offices, philanthropists, asset management firms, consultants, financial advisors and other professionals to explore best practices in endowment investing and governance. Speakers are chosen to help educate attendees on the latest developments and trends in the financial marketplace through high level programming via discussion groups and networking. Our speaker faculty, panelists and facilitators have the expertise and knowledge to present on numerous educational topics related to current economic trends and can bring their perspectives to help educate institutional investors and their respective investment committee members. The Investment Institute is designed to present high-level strategic sessions including interactive panel discussions and keynote presentations led by leaders in the industry to engage the Jewish philanthropic community by providing an atmosphere to strengthen relationships with colleagues and improve the understanding of critical factors for both long and short-term investing.
If past Investment Institutes are any indication, we will have over 60 communities and agencies from North America and Israel representing over $25 billion AUM attending the next 2020 JFNA Investment Institute. Titled “Investment – Innovation – Impact”, this theme will cover four tracks on investments, economics, strategic governance and philanthropy. Keynote speakers and panelists will cover topics ranging from maximizing investment committee effectiveness, exploring the differing features of investment outsourcing and consulting, taking a strategic perspective on the global economy, discovering trends in philanthropy to how the upcoming election will affect your portfolio. Learn from leading innovators on impact and social responsible investing from North America to Israel.
